When you’re creating content for your website, it’s always nice when people leave a comment telling you what they think of your site or your post.
Although on certain websites (ie, the Daily Mail and Facebook) it’s the norm for people to leave comments, on others people just aren’t in ‘comment mode’ as they browse, and so its helpful to remind them that they can comment and even better, you’d welcome their comments.
After discussing this with Jeremy Vine for his new official website jeremyvine.tv (built by moi!) he took pen to paper (as in literally, his daughter’s crayons and felt tips and colouring paper) and produced three personalised handwritten and hand-sketched calls for his readers to leave comments.
I transformed them into transparent PNGs and they are now placed at the bottom of each blog post, where they look like they are drawn onto the post, and immediately, comments have started to appear.
Of course, you can always type at the bottom of your blog posts ‘Leave a comment’ but it doesn’t have the same appeal or ‘eyecatchyness’ as something that is so obviously hand created by the person themselves.
And that is why it works. After reading Jeremy Vine’s website, you see his personalised notes and you are instantly reminded that you are on Jeremy Vine’s very own website and this is something he has himself written.
Now, where are my kid’s felt tips…….
I have a great big pot of coloured pens (even sparkly!) that I love to use!
How super to see a ‘real# person there. Thanks for sharing!
hi Julia! thank you for your comment! I agree totally (especially on a celebrity site) it is great to see the ‘real’ person!
