We are only 8 days into July and I’ve already published 8 blog posts. And if you’re wondering what is going on (because obviously this isn’t normal), well I’m taking part in Sarah Arrow’s 30 day blogging challenge which is FORCING – yes, I am not joking, this terrifying woman is literally sitting in the corner with a whip in her hand – me to write a blog post every day….
The point is, much as I tell spend my life telling my clients who are all trying to raise their profiles, to blog, and in fact much as I even manage the websites for some of them and produce their content for them, and much too as it is much EASIER for me to write content than a lot of people bearing in mind for the past 15 years I’ve been a journalist and have churned through, either writing, reading or editing, thousands of words a day….. well blogging for myself can still be a challenge.
It’s a bit like going on a diet, doing exercise, not watching tv and numerous other things in life that you know you should do but sometimes put on the back burner. You are either in the habit of doing them, or in the habit of not doing them.
So for me, this challenge has been about getting into the habit of creating content and already 8 days in and I feel like the habit is set.
In case you’ve missed any of the wonders I’ve written, in the past week, here is a quick recap.
I’ve had quite a bit of news on the celebrity client front, with a wonderful testimonial from ITV News presenter Mary Nightingale, and a site going live for another presenter, Andrea Catherwood. I was also banging on as usual about how celebrities don’t quite realise what they need to be doing with the internet….. all those google searches on their name going to waste, as someone who spent the past 8 years converting google searches, this really does my head in.
Apart from of course, as we discovered this week, Prince Charles. Hats off to Prince Charles and the royal family who are using the internet and their content rich lives to CREATE their own publicity and engage their fans. Round of applause please and all other celebrities please take note….
And it’s certainly not all celebrity in my world (far from it, most of my world is dealing with kids and litter training kittens). Back to work though, and a lot of my clients are truly talented people who I am helping with their positioning and profile. I blogged about Sara Simmonds, an award-winning fashion consultant and how I’ve helped her with her digital strategy, her positioning, her authority status and also talked in general about a digital media strategy and how it differs from a conventional media strategy (clue: it doesn’t, not really…).
Plus we looked at press coverage and how to make press coverage about more than press coverage. And away from work I talked in general about mental attitudes and the habits of successful people.
So, that’s all folks! A summary of week 1. Yes, there are three more weeks of daily blog posts coming (with a week’s interlude in the middle to allow for holiday) but this is all about habits.
The fantastic quote above is most certainly not by me, but by Mahatma Ghandi. A very wise man apparently. And as he says about habits, your habits become your values and your values become your destiny. Let’s hope he’s right eh!
Very witty. Love your journey and look forward to more of the same.
Doing a great job Natasha. I too did a review which seems to have gone down reasonably well. Look forward to the ne t weeks worth 🙂
